PAC Facts
What is a Political Action Committee (PAC)?
A PAC is a group of individuals pooling financial resources to help elect candidates who are likely to represent their interests. A PAC is an efficient, transparent, voluntary, and legally authorized way for Ericsson employees to help make their voices heard and promote the company goals through political contributions to our nation’s lawmakers.
The PAC:
- Accepts limited, voluntary donations from its legally eligible employees;
- Makes contributions to candidates for federal elected political office within the limits established by law; and
- Files regular public reports with the U.S. Federal Election Commission disclosing contributions from employees to the PAC, and from the PAC to candidates.
Why Does Ericsson Need a PAC?
From spectrum allocation to patent reform, Congress impacts our business every day. Through Ericsson PAC, we can make sure lawmakers know the issues that are important to us. Corporations are prohibited by law from making direct campaign contributions. Ericsson PAC is the most effective way for us to come together and participate in the shaping of federal laws and regulations that affect our industry.
Who Can Join the PAC?
PACs, like the Ericsson PAC, rely on voluntary personal employee contributions. PAC eligible employees are 1) U.S. citizens or green card holders and 2) not paid on an hourly basis.
Why Should I Contribute?
Ericsson PAC allows us to be active participants and have a say in what our government does. As a member of Ericsson PAC, you join with your colleagues in speaking with one voice and support candidates who understand our point of view. When Ericsson succeeds, we all succeed.
Do I Have to Contribute?
No. Contributions to the Ericsson PAC are entirely voluntary. You can decline to contribute without concern that your decision will have any effect on your employment or employment status.
Are PAC Contributions Tax Deductible?
No. Contributions to Political Action Committees are not deductible for income tax purposes.
How Much Can I Contribute to Ericsson PAC Annually?
An eligible individual may contribute up to $5,000 per year.
Does Ericsson Provide a Charitable Match to My PAC Contribution?
Yes! When you make a PAC contribution, Ericsson will match your contribution up to $1,000 annually to an eligible 501 (c)(3) charity. Charitable contributions that Ericsson makes on your behalf as a result of your PAC contribution cannot be deducted from income tax returns.
